Flagship Retail Design
Located on the prominent corner of Studio Lane and Wharf Street, the Crown Duty Free Docklands project called for the creation of a flagship retail destination within a semi-outdoor atrium. The 230m² tenancy, with its impressive 30-metre shopfront, required a design that could effectively showcase a diverse spatial program, including fine jewellery, fragrances, watches, sunglasses, liquor, and a VIP bar area. The challenge was to harness the scale of the tenancy to create a personalized, high-impact space for Crown Duty Free Docklands.

Comprehensive Project Management
Studio PFA provided a full suite of architectural services, encompassing everything from initial concept design and custom millwork documentation to project management throughout construction. A key part of our role was expertly navigating the complex planning, building, and Landlord approvals. We also meticulously coordinated the CAT1 services (MEP and Fire services) to ensure a streamlined process, which was crucial for the seamless delivery of the Crown Duty Free Docklands project.
A Visually Striking Facade
The expansive 30-metre shopfront was a key design opportunity. Studio PFA responded to the client’s brief for a red and gold colour scheme with a sophisticated and engaging design. A distinctive red border was used to frame the facade, drawing the eye and creating a sense of visual hierarchy. Within this frame, gold pipe panelling was installed with concealed lighting, softly highlighting the half-pipe details and creating a dynamic and luxurious visual texture for Crown Duty Free Docklands, while the large windows allowed for an abundance of natural light.
Custom Joinery and Future-Proofing
A core component of the design was the custom-designed millwork joinery. By having the shopfitter manufacture these elements overseas, significant cost savings were achieved without compromising on quality. A standout feature is the custom liquor shelf and VIP bar area, designed with flexibility in mind. Its adaptable structure allows the shop operator to easily change branding as needed, ensuring the longevity and future-proofing of the space for Crown Duty Free Docklands and its evolving product offerings.
